Wow lovely pic. I lived at number 22a in the fifties right next to a bomb site which we used to play on.

Jane, do you remember Moles and Knights the green grocers shop in Milward Road I worked there after school from 58 to 60, a mate of my brothers, Johnny Marchant, was the full time van driver there. One of my jobs was to boil a cwt of beetroot in a big copper boiler then fish them out when the skin peeled with your thumb. The worst job was in the winter filling 30/40 1 gallon cans of ESSO BLUE paraffin and trying to remember who owned what as there were no names on them, the times I came off the delivery bike on the steep hills..

I lived at number 70 and also played on that bomb site If I remember there was a big drop on one side but we survived without Health & Safety! My nan & grandad Whiting lived at number 64 opposite the steps to Queens Road. I also used to play all around the castle. Happy days. I am 80 now and have six grandchildren.
