I remember this spot as a child in the 1950s while walking from the East hill to Fairlight. The whole walking route has long since fallen into the sea. My parents used to take me into a cafe on the way for drinks and ice cream. Also now fallen into the sea. When old enough to venture out on my own, I liked to climb up and down the nearby coastguard ladder that led to the beach. The metal ladder was attached to the cliff face but the last I saw of it (about 30 years ago) it was just a stump about a foot high sticking up through the shingle about 30 or 40 feet out from the cliff. It is amazing how much land has disappeared into the sea in the intervening years.

Yes. In a similar vein there is a circular base to an ancient well on the beach off beachy head which many years ago would have been some distance in land! Worth looking up...
