on 16 Nov 2012 Earl Wayne de Michel said Next to the Town Hall was Abbey National Building Society and at the other end was Fads Decorating Centre. This was knock down to make way for the Priory Meadow Shopping Centre. -

Front left looks as if it is the edge of M&S. FADS would not have been there before the 1980s. There was a large co-operative food shop on the right hand side past the Rumbelows, that may have in fact been what became FADS -
on 11 Sep 2017 Paul Bridger said Yes the shop on the left was definitely Marks and Spencer and the bus in the distance was the first of the rear engine Atlantean Maidstone and District, they appeared around 1959/1960. We used to cycle behind these buses so close we would leave black tyre marks on the engine casing.
