Me too. Although I first learnt to swim in small baths at the other end of the building.

I was at school in Hastings from 1948 to1958, firstly at Clive Vale Junior and then at Hastings Grammar School before joining the Royal Air Force. As we lived in a seaside town, we were obliged to learn to swim while at Junior School. I was successfully taught to swim in the Small Baths by the formidable Mrs Penney, who was prone to use a long pole to assist your in your endeavours, or sometimes to push you under briefly if she felt that you needed some extra encouragement or possibly chastisement!. The experience gained proved very useful later when undergoing the horrors of wet dinghy drill in January during my RAF training. Happy days.
