Oh my what a lovely picture. I would be very interested to see a book of these.

Who remembers a treasure of a shop further down the High Street nearer Judges Bakery by the name of Malcolm Mitchells.
This was packed to the ceiling with war surplus, ex WD and assorted "job lots". There was a narrow path down the middle where Malcolm would patrol and when asked for a particular item from used Navy shells to Army hob nailed boots he would gesture with his arm to the nearest pile and say" They in that lot somewhere lad" Where have all these characters gone?? -
Yes I do :)

Yes,I remember Malcolm Mitchell's very well.it was indeed a treasure trove. I was in the air training corps and used to buy my boots there, aswell as other gear.

Another great outlet was baldock's in George street.they sold quality clothing and footwear at extremely reasonable prices, including very low priced dr. Marten's.customers always received old fashioned service,in the most positive sense. It was also a great loss when the long standing trading post ceased trading.

I remember Malcom Mitchell's too. Got a submariners roll neck jersey there once. Incidentally, I was born in the cream coloured house behind the lamppost on the right hand side.
